The Most Selfless Force
There is no force on earth as selfless as a mother’s love. If you have been blessed enough to experience or watch this force in action, you know that this is true: she is the epitome of a selfless being. There is no dollar amount that can signify what a mother sacrifices and invests in her children—there is no paycheck that could come close to covering her expenses. If you have been unfortunate enough to threaten her children, and if you are still breathing, you know better than to pull that stunt that again. She gives her time fully, waking at any of time of the night. She gives her heart unconditionally, loving her children through thick or thin. She gives her mind completely, training her children to become capable and influential members of this world. And she does it for free, because she loves her child more than she loves herself.
We live in a world where this selflessness is hard to find anywhere else. There is, built into all of us, a STRONG desire to protect ourselves, to comfort ourselves, and to promote ourselves above all other concerns—the exact opposite of a mother’s love. In fact, we begin to WORSHIP ourselves, and we have a word for religion that worships anything but the true God—idolatry.
Idolatry is alive and well in America, and the idol of choice is "SELF". In the pursuit of a more comfortable existence, we are too willing to worship our idol with zeal and passion. Idolatry has been deceiving its victims since the beginning of time, and we see a horrific example of this in Jeremiah 32:
“They built the high places of Baal in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to offer up their sons and daughters to Molech, though I did not command them, nor did it enter into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.”
The people had been so DECEIVED by those teaching them to “worship” that they offered up their SONS and DAUGHTERS. Now hear the painful truth: our society is deceiving us the SAME WAY, except our “Molech” is SELF, and our sacrifice is abortion.
Now I know this may sound harsh, but the unfortunate truth is that the pro-choice community are the ones that actually use the phrase. In a prochoice article entitled "So what if abortion ends life?" by Mary Elizabeth Williams, we read the following:
“…I know that throughout my own pregnancies, I never wavered for a moment in the belief that I was carrying a human life inside of me. I believe that’s what a fetus is: a human life, and that doesn’t make me one iota less solidly pro-choice…the fetus is indeed a life.
A life worth sacrificing.”
When we worship self, we conclude that when pregnancy is inconvenient, we should terminate it. With the full support and protection of all three branches of our government, our country has sacrificed 58 million of our unborn children in "temples" in every state in our union. Women are being deceived, especially in our own town. OUR abortion temple has existed for 37 years. They operate and mislead 50 weeks a year. Their high priest makes the drive to Montgomery every week, and on the most crowded days, abortions are performed every 7 min 30 seconds.
Now we come to the purpose behind Life on Wheels’ existence. Remember what we established at the beginning of this post?
The love of a mother is the most selfless and powerful human force.
And HERE is where we derive our strategy for victory:
We are going to show pregnant women that they are MOTHERS.
In our own city, pregnant women are being told that at 10 weeks their “fetuses” are cell masses the size of “a grain of rice”, a blatantly unscientific lie. Through an ultrasound, we can show them the TRUTH they DESERVE: their 10 week old babies have arms and legs. Through the use of ultrasound technology, we are going to show a woman her potential: the potential to overcome the idol of our society with the most powerful force on earth: love for her child. We are not going to lie to her the way she has been lied to in the past, and we will offer love for the potential hurts and wounds the lies have already cost her. We will then share with her the source of that love: our redeeming Savior. It is through HIS grace that we at Life on Wheels have found the courage to fight towards overcoming our own lust for self, and we know that His love will equip mothers to become MORE than conquerors.
