God's Tattoo
As a certified OB/GYN provider who has practiced for 20 years, I have the unique privileged to observe the trends and fads each generation adopts. Recently, I have seen an interesting cultural shift: the rise of the respectable tattoo. The tattoo, once a sign of rebellion reserved for bikers, street-fighters and rock stars, is now an opportunity for self-expression used by even the most respectable members of our society. People get tattoos for many different reasons. Some do so out of artistic expression. Some do so to make a statement to the world as to who they are. Someday do so out of grief or in remembrance of someone they miss. I have one patient who gets a tattoo of the footprints of every baby she delivers with their name and date of birth. She has several children and is running out a room for the next baby announcement! My friend, a dynamic pastor who loves Jesus with all his heart, has a Gothic cross on his calf, surrounded by the Solas of the reformation. This "ink" has afforded him countless opportunities to share the gospel, making HIS tattoos an evangelistic tool! Did you know the Bible tells us that God has a tattoo? Our Word of the Week comes from Isaiah 49:15-16. It reads: “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.” Israel had rebelled against God, forgetting all that He had done for them. They forgot the covenant they had made and chose to BLATANTLY ignore His pleas for them to return. In this passage, God uses one of the strongest emotional connections in the human condition – a mother’s love for her child - to demonstrate His unquenchable love for us. He, in permanent ink, has engraved His children's names on the palms of His hands. He loves us no matter how far our sin has taken us away from Him. No sin's stain is too great that the love of God through the cleansing blood of Jesus can't take away, and no sin can remove this engraving on His palms. We at Life on Wheels believe all life is precious - the babies AND the parents who have conceived them. We exist to show all who are curious the incredible beauty of life in the womb, and in turn, to show them the unconditional and permanent love God has for them. We will reach out especially to the mom who had chosen abortion and now suffers the grief of her decision. We want her to see God's tattoo - her name before the creation of the world tattooed on his palm as proof of His unconditional love for her.
