Internship

This time last year Life On Wheels was still just a dream, and I had never heard about it. From July 2012 to December 2016 I worked in a job with very nice people, but I was underpaid, under-utilized, and in a completely different field from my degree and experience.

But I knew that I knew that I knew I was supposed to work there. Every time I looked for another job (and I did that a lot), I could never even get past updating my resume because I knew I couldn't leave.

Last October Dr. Phillips talked to me about Life On Wheels, and December 16, 2016 I was hired as the Director of Ministry Operations. This is a dream job that challenges me every day and allows me to see God working in the lives of so many people.

When I told my son all of this he said, “Mom, think of it this way; if you had never worked there, you wouldn't have met Dr Phillips and been hired for this job. You just worked four and one-half years as an intern.”

Internship. When you think about it, I got off pretty easy. Moses was on the backside of the desert for forty years. Joseph was in Egypt at least thirteen years. Caleb had to wait forty years for the Israelites to die off so he could cross over into the Promised Land and take his mountain. I’m not in their league by any means, but still; fifty-four months is really nothing.

Where are you interning? Are there things that you know God has called you to do, but right now you really can’t see the point? I couldn't see the point either.

Seeing. We like to see it before we go for it. We want to know the details and the end from the beginning. But guess what? That’s not how God works. He promises to be there and that His plan for you is only for good, but you don’t get the details up front.

If you are in a season where you can’t make sense of it but you know that is where you are supposed to be, don’t give up. Don’t get grouchy (I can’t say I never did, but my husband would pull me back from the edge), and bless the ones you are with right now. Your mission field is all around you if you have the eyes to see it.

I am so thankful and happy. I know that this is just the beginning for Life On Wheels, and what an awesome blessing to be a part of seeing lives saved and changed. But as in all things that you do with God, I find that the more I work for and with others, the more I am blessed.

He does that you know.

Proverbs 11:25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
